2015 Winter Nationals Recap!

The first thing I want to say about this year’s crowd is “WOW!”.   New faces, familiar faces, some we have not seen in awhile…all there for the same reason…..the food (pulled pork), the fun, (“What was that mystery car part?”) and the new can coolers. I had an unusual sense of peace before this year’s party. The winter storm was going to just miss us. Thank God! Thank you all that R.S.V.P.’d and brought food to share. Just plain old thank you for coming or mailing us checks. No excuses are ever needed for not making it. The fact is that you remember us and we always hope to see you back in the future.

The one thing that made this event different than all the other years was the first time winners. Please take note of this for all of you that think you could never compete with the caliber of racers that attend this event. The man who won the Gambler’s Race defeated this year’s runner-up Jason Wheatcraft who to my recollection has lost only a handful of races the entire two times the Wheatcraft family has attended this event. Still with a heavy heart from the loss of his sister- in-law who lost her battle with cancer, Mark Blue with beer in hand won the Gambler’s Race and then donated all his winnings back to the pot in the memory of Penny Blue. Mr. Wheatcraft followed suit giving his entire purse back. Who says you can’t have a good time and be a hero at the same time!

Jason Wheatcraft came storming back to win the Race For the Wires taking down Brian Spring. Thanks to Firecore Ignitions for Donating two complete wire sets this year.

Thanks to Mark Hummer’s idea for a race in memory of Chip Foust and for donating the “hundy” for the purse money. The winner and runner up were Ed Gardner and Bob Marshall.

The Beer Eliminator was won by a driver’s wife, Angie Goodwin, Gary’s (no sissy sticks) better half, who took out Rick Newmeyer.

The mystery part winner that was never installed on my car which was a “beam tripper” was guessed by Brian Spring. How did he know that?

Now for the real business of the night……with several checks coming in later,(thanks for being my excuse for being so late with this recap). The very grand total of $ 7870 was given to Jeg Coughlin Jr. this March 26, 2015.

Special thanks to Jeff Day, Doug Duell, Lisa Hollaway, Jeff and Vicki Kidd, Dean Bressler, Bob and Alice Stone, Joe Midile, the Rondy’s, Noah and Michelle Mabry, Alison Smith, Sandy Gay, Brenna McCullough, Rich Gorski, Mark Hummer, JEGS, and Mrs. Aruba , Jane Graebner, and all of you for helping make this possible. 2016 will be here before we know it!
